Raul Peralez for City Council District 3

As a lifelong resident of San José, Raul Peralez is a committed advocate for improving the quality of life for all in the city he loves. As a police officer and an educator, Raul understands the importance of public safety and investing in the development of our youth to move San José towards a brighter future. He is an active resident and has dedicated countless hours to volunteering and giving back to his community. 

Raul currently works as a police officer with the City of San José and is involved in numerous political and community ventures. He is the elected Vice President for his neighborhood association, an appointed Commissioner to the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission, and an appointed delegate to the California State Democratic Party. Since 2005, he has been a substitute high school and alternative education teacher, involving work with students in the juvenile justice system.

Raul is a big brother with the Big Brothers-Big Sisters of the Bay Area and assists and mentors homeless youth as a volunteer with Stand Up For Kids Silicon Valley. In his role as police officer, Raul is a longtime volunteer at Silicon Valley FACES Camp Everytown and regularly takes time during his days off to speak at local schools and community based organizations. In March of 2013 Raul was honored as the YMCA Project Cornerstone Adult Role Model of the year for his commitment to building positive relationships with young people and for making Silicon Valley a better place for young people to live and grow. Then in July of 2013 Raul was recognized for his work in the community, and honored as an Emerging Leader at the Silicon Valley Latino's Distinguished Leaders Awards Ceremony.

Prior to becoming an officer, Raul worked with the charter high schools of the Mexican American Community Services Agency. He was a counselor at El Portal Leadership Academy, a substitute teacher at Academia Calmecac, and a recruiter for both schools during the summer. While there he lead several after school programs, including advisor to the Cesar Chavez Youth Leadership Group and coach to the girls soccer and boys flag football teams. During this time, Raul also worked part-time as an emergency medical technician at the HP Pavilion. 

Raul graduated from Cupertino High School and attended San José State University. He earned a degree in Mathematics becoming the first in his family to graduate from college. He currently lives in the Rosemary Gardens Neighborhood of greater downtown San José.
