Diana Conti

Picture
Now in her second term as a trustee of the College of Marin, Diana has deep roots in both Marin and Sonoma Counties.  She lived in in Sonoma County for 9 years, working for the County of Sonoma as Deputy Drug Program Administrator, and as Clinical Administrator for Social Advocates for Youth, before moving to Marin.) After directing an ex offender reentry organization and an alcohol and other drug treatment program  in San Francisco, she was Executive Director of the Novato Human Needs Center  and the Marin Institute  (one of the major projects of the Buck Trust) in Marin County. While at the Marin Institute, Diana served as an expert quoted in national periodicals and on various televised news and radio programs regarding alcohol policy. She continues to work as a consultant nationally on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug policy and other public health policies.

She is the Founding Board President of West Bay Housing Development Corporation (which provides housing for people with special needs). She is a member of the Governing Council, and past Executive Board member, of the American Public Health Association, where she is an outspoken advocate for Single Payer, or “Medicare for All.” Today she serves as CEO of Parca, an organization that serves people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Working Collaboratively as a College Trustee:
Diana has found great success as a College of Marin Trustee, working collaboratively with her fellow Trustees, and the Community, to improve the functionality of both campuses. She has seen a contentious bond issue for facilities construction through to completion, brought community and College needs together to ensure a truly collaborative effort resulted in a campus that serves the needs of its students and remains in harmony with the surrounding neighborhood.

She has helped keep the College fiscally sound, made sure the scholarship money was preserved, and helped improve student success, with a 40% jump in degrees awarded. The College today enjoys full accreditation and a full offering of credit and non-credit classes serving all ages and the needs of all its students.

Overcoming Obstacles to Success:
A professional, Marin county resident, mother and community leader, Diana has lived in Marin County since 1982, while maintaining ties to Sonoma, where several family members still live. She is married to Elias Olson and has a daughter and son from her first marriage and a stepson from her second marriage. She has 5 grandchildren.

Diana has had to overcome many obstacles on the road to her successful career as a nonprofit executive director of organizations that give people the skills and support they need to succeed. As a single mom with young children, she had to leave behind her coursework toward a degree in counseling to provide for her children. In the course of just a year, she advanced from being an analyst to the Deputy Drug Program Administrator position.

Community Leader:
In addition to her work on the COM Board, Diana has been active on many boards and commissions in Marin and  Sonoma Counties,. She has directed non-profits for  more than 30 years,  addressing a variety of human needs including alcohol and other drug problem treatment, prevention, and public policy; support services for low-income, elderly, and minority communities; ex-offender re-entry services; mental health services, youth services, and services for people with developmental disabilities.

Diana currently serves on the Democratic Central Committee of Marin and as a Delegate to the State Party.

She looks forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions on this campaign and how the Assembly can better serve California and the 10th District.
